Fishing Catalina Island

Let's start this post out with a few straggler pics from California Adventure.

The vending machine close -up from Monster's Inc. cracks me up, if only real vending machine foods were that honest!

The World of Color is a spectacular, musical, light and water show!

The day after California Adventure, the kids went to Knotts Berry Farm-- another amusement park!

I was looking forward to a little R&R back off the coast of Catalina Island!

Glenn got us a fishing charter for the day, who specializes in Barracuda and Yellowtail!

The first stop was to get bait, which was little squids.  Our guide told us not to touch them cause they bite!  I didn't test that, but what I did find true was that they ink when they get scared!!!

There was a fly fishing option too!

We didn't travel far from Catalina Island.  Actually, we just went around to the back of the Island.

Within just a few feet from the Island the depth of water drastically increased!

We started out targeting barracuda and yellowtail.

Unfortunately, our guide couldn't locate them, so we shifted gears and got some smaller fish!

Calico Bass was the most popular catch!

We both caught a few of these hard fighting bass!

The coolest looking fish I caught was a young halibut!

The pretty blue fishes liked to ride my hook too!

Check out her BLUE eye!

Glenn caught a Sheephead fish, and in the water it appeared vivid red in color!  We released all of the fish we caught.

As we were getting ready to release this fish, a sea lion approached the boat!  The sea lion begged for the fish!!!   Glenn told our guide he wanted to toss it to the sea lion.

The sea lion is the black thing beginning to swim toward the boat!

To our surprise, the guide took the fish, and a long spear, and hit the sea lion over the head with the spear!!!  Then he tossed the fish in the opposite direction!!!

I don't understand why he did that!

Needless to say, we were not at all happy with our fishing guide and ended the fishing abruptly.

Sea lions and seals in the area are legally protected.

It was a shame he had to be so mean.  :-(
